Programs

All my presentations are geared toward elementary age students (grades K - 5).  They are appropriate for public, private, and homeschool curriculums.  I provide a list of suggested further reading and activities for teachers' use in their classrooms .

Generally, my programs last about one and a half hours.  If possible, I prefer two separate sessions (K-2 and 3-5).  I can more closely target age/grade appropriate materials.

Programs now being offered are as follows:

1.  Contemporary or easy fiction - This is a general discussion of some of my favorite and popular fiction/easy books.  Some weird, some funny, some odd, some strange - ALL WINNERS!

2.  Myths - Focuses on Norse myths - less well-known than the Greek myths, perhaps, but a great hit with kids.  Odin, Thor, Loki, and the rest of the inhabitants of Asgard, are a fount of irresistable characters and stories that will provide great entertainment for all ages.

3 .  Folktales - Tales from around the world; Onansi from Africa, Jack tales, and tales from the bayou from America.  Also, great Russian folklore about dragons, bears and furballs!  Very popular with students of all ages and grades.

4.  Fantasy - We will explore, The Book of Three, in depth. Children love Taran, Eilonway, Gurgi , and the other characters so much so, they dressed as one of the characters for Halloween.  That is pretty impressive when you consider the competition was Harry Potter .   The children will be introduced to the books in the Chronicles of Narnia series.  This is for fourth and fifth graders only.

5.  Epics - The Canterbury Tales for kids!  The two tales I recount, have been adapted for children.  We talk about pilgrimages, life in medieval times, and the kids' vote on which story they like most.  This is for fourth and fifth graders.

In all of my presentations, I use a great amount of visual aids, games, and activities.
